Bitrate
192 kbps
Per minute
1.37 MB
Per hour
82.40 MB
How it was calculated
  1. 192 kbps × 1000 = 192,000 bits per second
  2. × 225 s = 43,200,000 bits
  3. ÷ 8 = 5,400,000 bytes
Sizes use 1,024-based units (1 MB = 1,048,576 bytes), the way most computers show them. Container overhead and cover art add a little extra.

How to use the Audio Bitrate & File Size Calculator

  1. Choose what to work out: file size, bitrate or duration.
  2. Enter the bitrate (or WAV settings), duration and/or size.
  3. Read the result and compare typical formats in the table.

What does this tool do?

Bitrate is the amount of data per second of audio. Multiply it by the duration and divide by 8 to get bytes. MP3 at 128 kbps uses about 1 MB per minute; CD-quality WAV uses about 10 MB per minute.

Useful for podcast hosting limits, email attachment sizes, storage planning and checking whether a file is really the quality it claims.

Why use it?

  • Three directions.
  • PCM/WAV mode.
  • Format comparison table.

The formula

Size (bytes) = bitrate (kbps) × 1000 × seconds ÷ 8
PCM bitrate = sample rate × bit depth × channels
