How to use the Cooking Unit Converter
- Enter the amount and choose the units to convert from and to.
- Pick the ingredient so volume ↔ weight conversions are accurate.
- Read the result, plus grams, millilitres, cups and tablespoons.
What does this tool do?
A cup of flour weighs much less than a cup of sugar, so converting between volume and weight needs the ingredient's density. The converter uses typical baking values, such as 125 g per US cup of spooned flour and 200 g of granulated sugar.
Cups also differ by country: a US cup is 236.6 mL, a metric cup 250 mL and a UK imperial cup 284 mL. Within volumes or within weights, the ingredient doesn't matter.
Why use it?
- 14 common ingredients.
- US, metric and UK cups.
- Sticks of butter included.
Accuracy and limits
- Flour and other powders vary by ±10% depending on how they're scooped. For precise baking, weigh ingredients.
