How to use the Inductor Calculator
- Choose combine or energy & reactance.
- Enter the values (inductance in mH).
- Read the results.
What does this tool do?
Inductors combine like resistors: in series they add, in parallel their reciprocals add (assuming no magnetic coupling between them).
An inductor stores energy ½LI² in its magnetic field and opposes alternating current with a reactance X = 2πfL that rises with frequency.
Why use it?
- Series and parallel together.
- Energy and reactance.
- Millihenry inputs.
The formula
Series: L = L₁ + L₂
E = ½LI²
X_L = 2πfL
