How to use the Passphrase Generator
- Choose how many words (5–6 is a good balance).
- Pick a separator and whether to capitalize.
- Generate until you get one you like, then copy it.
What does this tool do?
Words are picked with secure randomness from a list of about 1,150 short, common English words. Because each word adds about 10 bits of randomness, a six-word passphrase is about as strong as a random 10-character password with symbols — and far easier to type and remember.
Why use it?
- Ideal for a password manager's master password.
- Easy to type on phones and TVs.
- Strong because the words are chosen randomly, not by you.
Example
“maple-ticket-orbit-quiet-crane-velvet” — six random words, about 61 bits of entropy.
Accuracy and limits
- Strength depends on the words being random. Don't swap in words you like, and don't use famous phrases or song lyrics.

Frequently asked questions
Is it safe to do this in a browser?
Yes, because nothing leaves your device. Everything is generated or checked with your browser's built-in cryptography (the Web Crypto API) — no network requests are made with what you type.
