How to use the Image to Base64
- Choose Image → Base64 or Base64 → Image.
- Pick an image, or paste Base64 text.
- Copy the data URI, an <img> tag or CSS — or download the decoded image.
What does this tool do?
A data URI embeds the image inside your HTML, CSS or JSON, which saves a network request for tiny images like icons. Base64 makes files about 33% larger, so it's best kept for images under about 10 KB.
Why use it?
- Embed small icons in CSS or emails.
- Store images in JSON or databases.
- Recover images from Base64 strings.
Example
A tiny PNG becomes a string like data:image/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgo… which you can use directly: <img src="data:image/png;base64,…">.
Privacy
Your files are processed entirely in your browser using built-in web technologies. They are not uploaded to our servers, and closing the page clears them from memory. There's no account to create and nothing to install.
Frequently asked questions
Are my photos uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser using the Canvas API. Your images never leave your device, which is why it works even on a slow connection.
