How to use the Reduce Image Size in KB
- Choose a target size, like 50 KB or 100 KB, or type your own.
- Choose your photo (or several).
- The tool finds the best quality that fits under your target.
- Download the result.
What does this tool do?
Government, exam, job and visa forms often reject photos over a set size. Instead of guessing quality settings, this tool searches for the highest quality that fits under your target, and only reduces the pixel dimensions if quality alone isn't enough.
JPG is the safest output because every form accepts it.
Why use it?
- Meet strict upload limits in one step.
- Keeps the photo as sharp as the limit allows.
- Works for signatures, ID photos and scanned documents too.
What size works for what
Rough guide to what fits in common limits while still looking good:
| Target | Comfortable dimensions | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| 20 KB | ~ 300 × 400 px | Signatures, tiny ID photos |
| 50 KB | ~ 600 × 800 px | Passport-style photos on forms |
| 100 KB | ~ 1000 × 1300 px | Profile photos, scanned IDs |
| 200 KB | ~ 1600 × 2000 px | Documents, clear photos |
Accuracy and limits
- Some forms also require exact pixel dimensions or a white background — check the instructions and use the Image Resizer or Cropper as well.

Your files are processed entirely in your browser using built-in web technologies. They are not uploaded to our servers, and closing the page clears them from memory. There's no account to create and nothing to install.
Frequently asked questions
Are my photos uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser using the Canvas API. Your images never leave your device, which is why it works even on a slow connection.
Why is my result slightly blurry?
Very small targets (like 20 KB) can only hold a limited amount of detail. Crop away unneeded background first — fewer pixels means more quality for what's left.
