How to use the Scientific Notation Converter
- Type a number — 123000, 0.00042, 6.02e23 or 4.5 × 10^-3.
- Choose the number of significant figures.
- Read scientific, E and engineering notation and the plain decimal.
What does this tool do?
Scientific notation writes a number as a value between 1 and 10 multiplied by a power of ten: 45,600 becomes 4.56 × 10⁴. It keeps very large and very small numbers readable.
Engineering notation uses powers of ten that are multiples of three, matching prefixes like kilo, mega and milli.
Why use it?
- Three notations at once.
- Significant figures control.
- Accepts many input formats.
