How to use the Stress Calculator

  1. Choose stress or Young's modulus.
  2. Pick what to solve for.
  3. Enter the values and read the result.

What does this tool do?

Normal stress is force per unit area: a 10 kN pull on a 5 cm² bar creates 20 MPa of tensile stress. Comparing stress with a material's strength tells you how close it is to yielding.

Young's modulus is the ratio of stress to strain in the elastic range — about 200 GPa for steel and 69 GPa for aluminium.

Why use it?

  • Stress and modulus modes.
  • MPa, GPa and psi.
  • Solve for any variable.

The formula

σ = F ÷ A
E = σ ÷ ε

Accuracy and limits

  • For learning and quick checks. Real engineering decisions should be verified by a qualified professional.
