Result

Initial bearing (forward azimuth)
51.21° NE
Final bearing on arrival
108.33° ESE
Rhumb line (constant) bearing
78.04° ENE
Back bearing
231.21°
Great-circle midpoint
52.36844, -41.29031
On a great circle the bearing changes along the way, so initial and final bearings differ. Bearings are relative to true north, not magnetic north.

How to use the Bearing Calculator

  1. Enter the coordinates of your start point.
  2. Enter the coordinates of your destination.
  3. Read the bearings and the midpoint.

What does this tool do?

Following a great circle — the shortest route — your heading changes along the way, so the initial and final bearings differ. A rhumb line keeps a constant compass bearing but is longer.

Bearings are measured clockwise from true north. Adjust for magnetic declination if you're using a compass.

Why use it?

  • Great-circle and rhumb bearings.
  • Compass point names.
  • Midpoint included.
