What does this tool do?

Bonuses are often withheld at a flat supplemental rate — 22% for US federal tax on bonuses up to $1 million — plus state and social taxes. The gross-up mode works backwards to the gross bonus needed for a chosen take-home amount.

Withholding isn't necessarily your final tax bill; the bonus is added to your income when you file.

Why use it?

  • Three bonus modes.
  • Gross-up for employers.
  • Any withholding rate.

Accuracy and limits

  • For planning and education — not financial, tax or legal advice.
