How to use the Map Scale Calculator
- Enter the map's scale (the number after 1:).
- Choose which way to convert.
- Enter the distance and read the result.
What does this tool do?
A scale of 1:25,000 means 1 cm on the map is 25,000 cm — 250 m — on the ground. Hiking maps often use 1:25,000 or 1:50,000; road atlases 1:200,000 or smaller.
Measure along a winding path with a piece of string, then convert its length.
Why use it?
- Both directions.
- Metric and imperial results.
- Any scale.
