How to use the Dilution & Concentration Calculator
- Choose dilution, mass percent or ppm.
- Pick what to solve for.
- Enter the values in consistent units.
What does this tool do?
When you dilute a solution, the amount of solute stays the same, so C₁V₁ = C₂V₂. To make 250 mL of 0.5 M from a 2.5 M stock, you need 50 mL of stock topped up to 250 mL.
Mass percent and parts per million express concentration as a share of the total mass — ppm is common for trace amounts in water and air.
Why use it?
- Three concentration formulas.
- Solve for any variable.
- Any consistent units.
The formula
C₁V₁ = C₂V₂
% w/w = solute ÷ solution × 100
ppm = solute ÷ solution × 10⁶
