How to use the Ideal Gas Law Calculator
- Pick what to solve for.
- Enter the other values in kPa, litres, moles and kelvin.
- Read the result, with °C and atm conversions.
What does this tool do?
The ideal gas law relates the pressure, volume, amount and temperature of a gas. At 0 °C and 1 atm, one mole of an ideal gas fills about 22.4 litres.
Temperatures must be absolute (kelvin): K = °C + 273.15.
Why use it?
- Solve for any variable.
- Convenient lab units.
- °C and atm shown.
The formula
PV = nRT
R = 8.314 L·kPa/(mol·K)
Accuracy and limits
- Real gases deviate from ideal behaviour at high pressures and low temperatures.
